“Everything you’ve ever wanted is sitting on the other side of fear.” — George Addair

The statement made by George Addair in this quote is crystal clear and you all know it. You all know that if you can manage to overcome fear, you will reach everything you’ve ever wanted. They are there, sitting on the other side of fear and waiting for you.

There is a problem though. Unfortunately, you don’t know how to overcome fear and reach the future you’ve always wanted. Worse, you don’t even accept your fear. So, what does this mean? Won’t you be able to reach your goals, ever? Don’t down your guards right away. There are ways to overcome fear and move along to the future.

Ask this question to yourself first: What do you really need to beat the fear?

Maybe you need all of them. Maybe it is enough for you if you have a little more courage or inspiration from experienced people. It depends on your situation. And no one can answer this question but you.

But there is one thing certain. If you want to accomplish your ultimate goals, you need to find your way to change your position and move to the other side of fear. Because fear stands between you and your dreams.

Lucky you, you have an enemy under your control. And in this article, I will explain how I overcome fear and start to move towards the future I’ve always wanted.

Disclaimer: Everything I wrote below depends on my experiences. Things can change when it comes to your journey. So, this is not a certain recipe that heals everyone.

Don’t forget: There is nothing wrong to steal ideas from others, but only you can prepare a recipe that special to your situation.

Why Fear Catch Us?

As I said, there is no need to down your guards. According to my experiences, there are certain reasons that bring out the fear and they are easy to spot. Here below you can find some of them:

Uncertainty
Overthinking
Fear of failure
Fear of change
Being impatient
Lack of planning
Lack of knowledge
Criticizing yourself
Fear of taking risks
Lack of selfishness
Lack of information
Fear of responsibility
Lack of self-confidence
Not setting realistic goals
Not seeing enough support
The judgment of other people

You can add more reasons for this list. These are the ones that came to my mind at first glance. As you can see, all of them are under our control. I mean, if you really want, you definitely can change the situation.

Since you are reading these sentences, I assume you want to change the situation. Start following the three steps I listed below:

  • Understand what gives you the fear feeling that stops you to take action.
  • Figure out a solution that covers your needs.
  • Start to the journey that will carry you to the other side of fear.

How To Overcome Fear?

First, you need to realize that you have that fear. Because most of the time we don’t even notice fear stays in front of us. And it is not willing to move until we accept it.

After you accept your fear and understand what are the reasons that make you feel that fear, it is time to act on it.

1.Find Your Passion

You can hear this advice from anyone. I know. Although it is so much cliche, you really need to find your passion to overcome fear. Because if you can find something that makes you jump from the bed every morning, you also can motivate yourself to beat your fear for the rest of the day.

Think about it. Wouldn’t you fight with your fear for something that makes your eyes bright with desire? I assume the answer is yes. So, congrats, you have a reason to defeat your fear.

2.Accept Uncertainty

Sometimes all you can do is to accept the situation as it is and move on. There is nothing to be ashamed of this. Accepting uncertainty doesn’t mean you don’t have enough wisdom to find the solution. Actually, it is the opposite. Accepting uncertainty shows that you are brave enough to confront your fear.

So, stop thinking about uncertainty. If you are stuck with the fear of uncertainty, you will procrastinate everything and this will drag you to laziness. The result will be a disaster. Since you didn’t take any actions for your goals, you won’t be able to find any solutions that will help you to achieve them. This will cause a lack of trust in yourself.

Keep this in mind, if you don’t accept uncertainty, probably you won’t be able to reach success, ever.

3.Have A Plan

Always have a plan. Even though you know that you are not going to stick to that plan. Because having a plan will give you more courage towards the future. Since you know what to do, you will start to take your steps self-assuredly.

Also, you will have a toolbox full of tools that you can use against uncertainty. Use them well to overcome fear. Don’t shrink to change your plans. If necessary, change it weekly. But always have a plan.

4.Get The Knowledge

If you don’t have the knowledge, you can’t come up with a plan. If you can’t come up with a plan, you can’t confront the uncertainty. It is all connected. So, get as much information as you can about the thing that you want to work on for your dreams.

Having knowledge will help you to trust yourself more. Of course, theoretical information is not enough to reach your goals. But they will definitely help you to build a solid way towards them.

5.Love The Journey

Forget about the destination. Because if you keep thinking about the destination, you will miss out on the most important thing during the process: The Journey.

“It’s not the destination, It’s the journey.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

You need to focus on the experience itself. Stop overthinking about the future and stay in the moment. If you need help with this, do some meditation. If you are not a type of “yoga” person, figure out things that give your mind the same space.

Believe in this: No matter what will be the result, it is certain that you will be stronger than ever at the end of the journey.

Accept this perspective. It will help you to overcome fear and focus on the journey itself more.

6.Focus On Yourself

If you want to overcome fear, you need to be strong both mentally and physically. Obviously, you need to take care of yourself. Unfortunately, most of the time we disregard our own needs. The truth is we need to be selfish enough to understand our needs and overcome fear.

7.Close Your Ears

You don’t need to pay attention to what people are saying. What you think is giving enough fear to you. Close your ears and focus on your journey.

What Is Waiting On The Other Side?

To be honest I don’t know, yet. And I am not sure I want to know or not. Because somehow, I get used to the idea of loving the journey itself.

Don’t misunderstand me. I want to see what is waiting on the other side someday, surely. But for now, I am okay to settle just with hope. And yes, I’ve overcome my fear. Nowadays, I take my steps by hoping the future I want is waiting on the other side.

I suggest you do the same. Stop asking that question. You’ll never be able to answer it. And there is no need to stop yourself just because you don’t know what the future will show you.

Don’t forget: In the end, you are the only one who can shape your life. Take your actions accordingly and let the universe do the rest.
